CHEMED
CHEMED is a charitable non-profit Jewish organization based in Rockland
County whose purpose is to provide vital assistance to families in crisis
due to the grave illness of a family member. Staffed by caring experienced
individuals CHEMED becomes involved upon the request of a family in need. It
is often at the point where the family’s ability to cope has been taxed to
the limit and children are in danger of being neglected, that CHEMED is
called in. Through its many home-maintenance and childcare services CHEMED
reduces the inevitable physical and emotional chaos in the home, and keeps
the family unit from disintegrating.
Their services include:
1-Home-maintenance- housekeeping help, laundry, minor home repairs.
2- Babysitting services- the supervising of mealtimes, helping with
homework, bathing children, putting them to bed, arranging places for them
to stay when neither parent is home (whether a night or days at a time) and
sometimes arranging foster care.
3-Transportation- transporting the sick to doctor’s appointment, bringing
volunteers to the family’s home, doing the family’s shopping, driving the
children to and from school
4-Patient-oriented services- visiting the patient and providing moral
support, counseling services and providing a badly needed break to the
caretaking spouse.
5-Funding Department provides the funding for cleaning help, paying for
professional tutoring when needed, providing medical and mental health
expenses, and providing special stipends of $500.00 around holiday time
